Heavy rainstorms caused landslides and mudslides in most parts of Hong Kong, resulting in a large number of casualties. AMS was in full mobilization assisting in the operation of casualty clearing/retention

A gas explosion near a busy department store in Causeway Bay caused a large number of casualties. AMS members were deployed to the scene and nearby ambulance stations and hospitals to render medical assistance.

The year witnessed the first influx of Vietnamese boat people to Hong Kong. AMS members were assigned to provide round-the clock services at clinics set up in various refugee camps.
1976
The Medical and Health Department launched a methadone treatment scheme for the rehabilitation of drug addicts. AMS members assisted the Department in manning 25 methadone clinics in Hong Kong.

An AMS delegation visited medical authorities in Guangzhou and Foshan to exchange views and experiences in disaster medicine and the combined use of Western and Chinese medicine.

In The Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon, one of the major annual events organised by the Hong Kong Amateur Athletic Association, AMS deployed around 800 first aiders including doctors, nurses and AMS
staff in this big event.

A 3-year Disaster Medical Assistant Training course was introduced for AMS members of the Operations Wing so as to enhance their first aid skill.
The China Airline MD-11 Jetliner, while landing at the Chek Lap Kok Airport on 22 Augest 1999, was pitched and eventually overturned by Typhoon Sam, leaving 3 passengers dead and many others injured. AMS members, on notification by the Fire Services Communication Centre, immediately rushed to the scene with all the necessary medical equipment to rescue the injured passengers.

Experts from the mainland, Macao and Hong Kong were invited to attend the Disaster Medicine Management Symposium held by AMS. Six government emergency departments also took part in the Symposium.

The first AMS Senior Officers' Management Training Workshop was held in Zhuhai, China in April. Including top management, there were altogether 61 senior officers taking part in this Workshop.

To support the Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccination Programme of the Department of Health, AMS members provided vaccinations for 120,000 children in Hong Kong who had never taken such vaccination.

In view of the winter surge in accident and emergency attendance, AMS deployed 34 members daily to provide assistance at the accident and emergency departments of 12 acute hospitals under the Hospital Authority between 27 January 2012 and 23 February 2012.
From December 2011 to February 2012, AMS deployed members to six maternal and child health centres to provide support services for their health programmes in response to the request of the Family Health Service of the Department of Health for assistance to meet the huge demand for maternal services at the maternal and child health centres.
When the Exercise Checkerboard was conducted under the Daya Bay Contingency Plan of HKSARG on 26 and 27 April 2012, AMS deployed 125 members to set up 3 radiation monitoring centres respectively at Sai Kung Marine Police Base, Ma Liu Shui Public Pier and Man Kam To Border Check Point and one decontamination centre at Shatin Swimming Pool. In addition, 100 members joined the exercise as actor players at the Pool.
In response to the Security Bureau's request for assistance in the Cleaning Plastic Pellets Operation, AMS deployed a total of 68 members to provide first-aid coverage and stand-by ambulance services at the beaches of Tung O, Cheung Chau, Tai O and Chi Ma Wan on 11, 12, 25 and 26 August 2012.
While public meetings on the issue of national education were held by organizations and members of the public for consecutive days between 30 August 2012 and 17 October 2012, AMS provided round-the-clock first aid coverage every day.
After the vessels collision incident off Lamma Island occurred on 1 October 2012, AMS deployed a total of 115 members to Ap Lei Chau Public Pier to reinforce regular forces and a total of 13 casualties were conveyed to 4 hospitals by AMS ambulances in the rescue operation. Furthermore, the Hong Kong Government has decided to expand the Cadet Corps starting from the 2014-15 financial year. The target was to increase the number of cadets from 1,000 to 3,000 in five years.

The same arrangement as year 2012 for Winter Surge, AMS deployed 29 members daily to provide assistance at the accident and emergency departments of 13 acute hospitals under the Hospital Authority between
December 2014 and May 2015.
2015
The ferry accident happened on the evening of 25 October 2015 when a high-speed Macau ferry slammed into an unknown object near Siu A Chau, one of the Soko Islands. Mobilization of AMS ambulance fleet and
members were immediately required. During the emergency turn out, a total of 7 ambulances and 51 duty members were deployed for the ferry accident. Besides, 17 cases were treated on the field and 11
hospital cases were reported on the tragic accident.
2016
On celebrating the 5th anniversary of the Cadet Corps, the AMS also had the Volunteer Group of the First Aid Team facing up to its 15th anniversary in the same year.
The AMS was included in the “Safeguard HK, Security Bureau Mobile Application” launched by the Security Bureau to provide the public with information on the services to be provided.
On 21 June 2016, the No. 4 Alarm Fire broke out at the mini-storage facilities of the Amoycan Industrial Centre in Ngau Tau Kok. The AMS deployed 8 ambulances together with about 50 duty members to help escort residents from an elderly home in Tak Bo Garden affected by the fire to a safe place.
The FIA Formula E Championship Hong Kong was hosted at the harbourfront track in Central for which the AMS provided professional and efficient services.

2019
AMS mobile team was equipped with AED, resuscitation and trauma rucksacks as standard appliances, the results of these improvements are enhancing the team to achieve greater efficiency and effectiveness
in significant events.
2020
Since February 2020, AMS provides escort services to confirmed cases of COVID-19, their close contacts and other persons in need. As of 31 December, AMS provided escorted services to 37,281 people in 2020.
AMS provides full support to combat the epidemic by deploying members to offer medical support in quarantine centres, and participate in the Universal Community Testing Program and inter-departmental joint operations on inspection of bars.
On 20 March 2022, the Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, visited the AMS Headquarters in Ho Man Tin today to thank its personnel for their full support for the enforcement of the compulsory quarantine to safeguard public health.

On 28 November 2020, AMS took enforcement action for the first time by exercising its powers under the Prevention and Control of Disease (Compulsory Testing for Certain Persons) Regulation (Cap. 599J) to issue penalty notices and deliver compulsory testing orders.
AMS provides full support to combat the epidemic by deploying members to offer medical support in quarantine centres, and participate in the Universal Community Testing Program and inter-departmental joint operations on inspection of bars.
On 20 March 2022, the Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, visited the AMS Headquarters in Ho Man Tin today to thank its personnel for their full support for the enforcement of the compulsory quarantine to safeguard public health.
In October 2020, the Yuen Long First Aid Bicycle Depot opened.

2021
Apart from the existing anti-epidemic work, AMS participated in inter-departmental enforcement actions and compliance inspections, conducted infection control and management courses, and provided medical support to patients staying in designated isolation facilities after hospital discharge.
AMS continued to provide escort services. As of 31 December, AMS provided escorted services to 69,442 in 2021.
In July 2021, the Cadet Corps launched the Health Awareness and Promotion Programme for Youth (HAPPY).
On 1 September 2021, a newly designed official website was launched with more accessibility features.
Dr. Ronald LAM succeeded Dr. CHAN Hon-yee, Constance as Commissioner of AMS.
In October 2021, a new uniform for the Ambulance Services Section was introduced.
On 24 October 2021, about 700 medical officers and first aiders were deployed to provide first aid services in the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2021, the first large-scale sports event held in Hong Kong since the outbreak of the epidemic.

Starting from March 2022, a new poster was displayed on outdoor advertisement light boxes, television screens on external walls of buildings, seat backs of buses, taxi bodies, etc., with a view to recruiting new members through this large-scale promotional campaign.
In April 2022, 5 new ambulance motorcycles commenced services.
The First Aid Bicycle team started to patrol along cycle tracks in Tseung Kwan O in December 2022.

On 1 March 2023, the Headquarters Control Room, which was activated in view of the epidemic, ceased operation and the AMS held a lights-off ceremony, signifying the completion of its COVID-19 anti-epidemic duties.
On 2 April 2023, the AMS and the Hong Kong Metropolitan University officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding to officially launch a series of academic and service collaborations.
Starting from 30 May 2023, AMS members can choose to wear winter or summer seasonal uniforms at their own choice throughout the year, depending on the weather and personal constitution.
Starting from July 2023, AMS has been arranging walk-in recruitment and interview for volunteer members and cadets on the third Saturday of each month. The simplified recruitment process can save the step of appointment for interview from July 2023. Medical examination will be arranged soon for those who have passed the interview to speed up the entire recruitment process.

In February 2025, the AMS upgraded the 'Disaster Medical Assistant Training Course' to the 'Emergency Pre-Hospital Care Course' to enhance the quality of training for its members and meet societal needs.
To accommodate individuals who are busy with work or study but wish to contribute to the community, the AMS has revised the total induction training hours to 100 starting from April 2025. Additionally, a new “dual mode” induction training arrangement has been introduced, offering both weekday and weekend sessions to facilitate participation.
