Trainees are required to attend 100 hours of induction training over a period of approximately five to six months. To facilitate participation, the induction training will be conducted in a dual mode, with weekday and weekend sessions available.
Weekday sessions will be conducted mainly in weekday evenings (no more than twice a week, from 1900 to 2200 hours) at the AMS Headquarters located at 81 Princess Margaret Road, Homantin, Kowloon. Some sessions (approximately four sessions) will be held during weekends or public holidays.
Weekend sessions will be conducted mainly on weekends (from 0900 to 1700 hours or from 1400 to 2200 hours) at the AMS Headquarters and other training centres. Some sessions will be held on weekday evenings (from 1900 to 2200 hours).
The induction training covers an overview of the organisation of the AMS, national security education, first aid, discipline, squad drill, casualty handling, infection control, protection of personal data and patient privacy, etc.
Upon successful application and acceptance to join the induction training, trainees will receive a timetable for the induction training prior to the commencement date, allowing them to arrange their schedule accordingly. If trainees are unable to attend due to other commitments, they may inform their class in charge in advance and apply for a class change. However, the approval of such requests is subject to the course arrangement at that time. Trainees must meet the minimum attendance requirement, pass the induction training assessments, and demonstrate satisfactory overall performance before graduation.
Upon completion of the induction training, new members will be posted to different units and are required to continue attending approximately ten hours of regular training (usually two Sunday mornings (4 hours each) and one weekday evening (2 hours) every month) to further develop their medical and first aid knowledge and skills, such as evacuation of casualties, disaster management and etc. Training centres and venues are established over the territory, including outlying islands, to ensure that members can attend the training near their residences. Moreover, members may choose to participate in other centralised training courses, such as driving, leadership, management, life-saving, management of methadone clinics, according to their own schedules.
